Measuring is key! The most important aspect of installing a frameless shower is accurate measurements. Improperly taken measurements can easily cause the whole installation to fail. Frameless enclosures do not allow for nearly as much adjustability as their aluminium-framed counterparts and it is very important to measure and note out of plum/levels.
Plum refers to the vertical line whereas level refers to the horizontal line. When measuring an opening it is quite important to also measure the extent to which the walls and floor/ceiling is out of level or plum, this way you can account for it and cut the glass to match these measurements. This will make all the gaps consistent and improve the overall aesthetic appeal.
SOME COMIC RELIEF
Just incase you couldn't come to a decision about our product highlight
Since 2010, Schematech has been at the cutting edge of architectural glass hardware. We have a strong focus on developing new products and as a testament to our innovation, we boast one of the most diverse and unique inventories in our field.
AUGUST PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT
This month we are officially launching our hydraulic glass door hinges.
HDH-611-90: 90° Wall to Glass Hydraulic Door Hinge (Set)
HDH-612-180: 180° Glass to Glass Hydraulic Hinge (Set)
They are equipped with some fancy features. First, a few technical details:
The hinges are sold as a set consisting of one spring loaded hinge and one hydraulic hinge. (Spring loaded hinge always installed on the top of the door and the hydraulic hinge at the bottom of the door.)
Spring loaded hinge brings the door back to its original position and the hydraulic hinge controls the soft closing function and the speed of the door.
The hinges will hold open at 90° and will start self-closing from 85°.
Maximum opening angle is 95°
THIS MONTH'S SPECIAL
135° Glass to Glass Adjustable Hinge SDH-802-135A
6mm to 12mm toughen safety glass weighing up to 50kg.
The question is when and how to stabilize your shower. There are rules set out to maximise the sturdiness of your shower design. They are no secret but without them, the whole installation can feel very unsupported.
The basic rule is that depending on the glass thickness there is a maximum length of the top edge of the glass panel that can remain unsupported.
There are three basic ways to add support to panels to adhere to these rules:
Stabilizer bars. These are supporting rods that stretch from the walls to the panel/s and provide strength on unsupported edges.
Glass shelves. If the glass shelf has holes in it then the clamps used to hold it are firm enough to add support to the panel.
Header rails. These run along the entire top edge of the glass and are the most stable form of support.
Disclaimer: Although these are all widely applied methods for bracing, how they individually contribute towards compliancy is still a matter of much debate.

Inside, outside and center line measurement modes? What are they and why are they important.
When measuring for a shower there are 3 different “measurement modes” you can use. All of these can get you to the same answer, but the way you need to calculate your overlaps will change.
Luckily Made to Measure will do this for you - if you know how.
The different measurement modes are best explained with a picture:
Inside Mode is when you measure along what will be the inside line of the glass, outside mode is the outside line and centre-line mode is the centre line of the glass.
The difference will always be the gaps required between the panels on any corner as you can see the differences in the measurements for inside and outside mode.
Step1: Measure the shower in whichever mode suits you best Step2: Select the correct Measurement mode in MTM Step 3: Input your sizes as usual
After the long weekends there is no doubt that everyone’s budget has been a little stretched. This month we are offering some advice that could help you close budget-sensitive projects.
When quoting on a frameless shower it is always economical to use wall-to-glass hinges rather than glass-to-glass hinges.
Choosing the right hinges can be very important. They mostly all do the same thing but our stainless steel range is far more economical than our domed or bevelled ranges.
If frameless is not too high on the list of demands try using channel and a header rail, instead of clamps and a stabiliser bar.
Hinges
These hinges are not just any hinges!
For small doors up to 600mm it can self-close from 60 degrees. Doors greater than that self-close from 40 degrees. The maximum width is 800mm.
