February 2017

A love letter from Schematech
Dear << Test First Name >>, roses are red, violets are blue, this week we unpacked a new shipping container, especially just for you!

Sliders, balustrades and showers galore! With a company like Schematech, what more could you ask for?
The Smooth Guy in town, the Easy Slider.
An attractive piece of hardware that is neat, tidy, easy on the eye and a machine in any room.
He's a tough guy, managing to hold 100kg of glass and catering for larger openings. A guy like this must have his limitations though, right? The easy slider is limited to 1.1m size doors.
Meet your Easy Slider here.
If only all smooth sliders came with a handbook on how to manage and understand them...

At least when they tell you "nothing's wrong"' you can trust that there really isn't.

Here are two handy tips on the Easy Slider:
When installing the Easy Slider, first install the ‘Glass Connection Track Clamps’ onto the glass, before installing the glass.
The maximum suggested opening size that our system can cover is 1100mm per door.
What better way to spoil your loved one this month than with a Complete Stabilizer Set!

The Quadrant Method

Measuring can be exhausting but here is a fresh approach that will speed up the work, as well as crack down on inaccuracy.
Step 1:
Set up your laser anywhere in the middle of your opening. The laser is self-leveling so no need to stress about that.
Step 2
Measure from the edges of the opening to the level and plumb lines of the laser.
  • From the right and left to the centre at the bottom and the top
  • From the bottom to the centre on both sides
Step 3:
Calculate the levels by using the difference in the sizes

April 2017

The traffic has died down and everyone is gearing up for all the holidays ahead (all while trying to find Woolworths' 10 golden tickets scattered across the country). Fear not, the madness hasn't hit us yet and business will carry on as per usual at Schematech, but we will be closed on the 14th, 17th and 27th of April.
It seems that we left a few Easter Eggs in the last job that was done using our Patch Fittings at the Mall of Africa.

After the long weekends there is no doubt that everyone’s budget has been a little stretched. This month we are offering some advice that could help you close budget-sensitive projects.
When quoting on a frameless shower it is always economical to use wall-to-glass hinges rather than glass-to-glass hinges.
Choosing the right hinges can be very important. They mostly all do the same thing but our stainless steel range is far more economical than our domed or bevelled ranges.
If frameless is not too high on the list of demands try using channel and a header rail, instead of clamps and a stabiliser bar.
Hinges

These hinges are not just any hinges!

For small doors up to 600mm it can self-close from 60 degrees.
Doors greater than that self-close from 40 degrees.
The maximum width is 800mm.

Locking Pull Handles
(How's this for nifty- they lock into the floor!)

There is a key on the one side,
opposite is where the thumb turn resides.

The lock goes into the floor
meaning less hardware on the door.

Both handles have the same cut out
So if you don’t like the round one,
You will like the square one - there's no doubt.

A MADE-TO-MEASURE TIP

Inside, outside and center line measurement modes?
What are they and why are they important.

When measuring for a shower there are 3 different “measurement modes” you can use. All of these can get you to the same answer, but the way you need to calculate your overlaps will change.
Luckily Made to Measure will do this for you - if you know how.

The different measurement modes are best explained with a picture:
Inside Mode is when you measure along what will be the inside line of the glass, outside mode is the outside line and centre-line mode is the centre line of the glass.

The difference will always be the gaps required between the panels on any corner as you can see the differences in the measurements for inside and outside mode.
Step1: Measure the shower in whichever mode suits you best
Step2: Select the correct Measurement mode in MTM
Step 3: Input your sizes as usual

TOOL TIP
Stability is key
The question is when and how to stabilize your shower. There are rules set out to maximise the sturdiness of your shower design. They are no secret but without them, the whole installation can feel very unsupported.
The basic rule is that depending on the glass thickness there is a maximum length of the top edge of the glass panel that can remain unsupported.
There are three basic ways to add support to panels to adhere to these rules:
  1. Stabilizer bars. These are supporting rods that stretch from the walls to the panel/s and provide strength on unsupported edges.
  2. Glass shelves. If the glass shelf has holes in it then the clamps used to hold it are firm enough to add support to the panel.
  3. Header rails. These run along the entire top edge of the glass and are the most stable form of support.
Disclaimer: Although these are all widely applied methods for bracing, how they individually contribute towards compliancy is still a matter of much debate.
These sizes are:
